Women in the Rabbinate: A Long and Winding Road
Tuesday, April 10, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am
FreeRabbi Lenore Bohm was one of the first 50 women ordained by the Reform movement and the first woman rabbi to serve in San Diego County. In this presentation, Rabbi Bohm will talk about the events that led to the women being ordained in all movements of Judaism, beginning in 1972. Amusing and unexpected vignettes from her life as a student, a mother, and a congregational rabbi will entertain and perhaps challenge you.
Rabbi Lenore Bohm is a respected and popular teacher throughout San Diego’s Jewish community. She was the first woman to serve as rabbi at Beth Israel following her ordination in 1982. In subsequent years, she directed the Jewish Healing Center and Waters of Eden, and has contributed to the building and flourishing of many local Jewish organizations agencies and programs. She has done post-graduate study at Spertus Institute for Jewish Learning and Leadership and Claremont Graduate School. She completed certificate programs in contemplative and spiritual leadership and spiritual direction through the Institute for Jewish Spirituality, the Shalem Institute and USD.
Rabbi Cantor Arlene Bernstein and Rabbi Alyson Solomon will appear on the Q&A panel at the end of this fascinating lecture.
