Welcome home

Your home for a meaningful and enduring connection to Judaism.

Congregation Beth Israel is an inclusive, accessible, and inspiring Jewish community in San Diego. We seek to connect the members of our community through spiritual enrichment and lifelong learning, and welcome anyone who wishes to pursue a meaningful and enduring connection to Judaism.

This past Sunday, Bad Bunny delivered one of the most unapologetically American halftime shows I have ever seen - singing entirely in Spanish, centering Puerto Rican culture, and declaring, “Mi patria, Puerto Rico. Seguimos aquí. (My homeland, Puerto Rico. We’re still here).

Benito is from Vega Baja - the very same town my father and family come from - so this was very personal for me.

Building for the future

Restoring our campus & creating a mikvah

Our temple faces the necessary challenges of maintaining our buildings adequately and appropriately. At the same time, we have a unique opportunity to construct a mikvah on the Beth Israel campus and establish a mikvah program for our membership and for the greater San Diego Jewish community.

Meet Manny and David

Since joining Beth Israel, Manny and I have embarked on an incredibly joyous and fulfilling journey. We've found a true Jewish home within a warm, loving community. Our involvement includes weekly Shabbat, Torah study, Jew Jam, starting the Keshet group (LGBTQIA+) along with others, and helping out wherever possible. This past year, I was honored to be elected to the board, allowing me to support this vibrant Reform Jewish temple even more. Both of us are special education teachers for students with extensive needs, and it brings us so much "Simcha" to be part of a community that wholeheartedly welcomes and embraces everyone who walks through its gates.

Meet Janet

The warm, strong bonds of friendship formed through the Women of Beth Israel keeps me inspired and connected to our Beth Israel community. Over the years, our family has experienced many meaningful life-cycle events at Beth Israel. From our marriage at 3rd & Laurel to our son’s recent marriage, Beth Israel continues to play a significant role in our Jewish family heritage, L’ Dor V' Dor.

Meet Jason

I currently serve as one of the co-chairs of the Congregation Beth Israel Social Action Network. Growing up in Puerto Rico, I saw firsthand the challenges faced by the historically neglected communities within our society and quickly learned the importance of Tikun Olam. Congregation Beth Israel has given me a platform to continue helping others, while also creating opportunities to meet other congregants and help them give back to the broader San Diego community.
