|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, repeating until Tuesday, February 27, 2024

$36 – $45

In this class we’ll study the history of Zionism by examining four distinct phases of the movement. We’ll study each phase in chronological order, but also discuss how each particular stage still influences Israel today, and Israel’s relationship with the Jewish diaspora. We’ll study classical Jewish texts that illuminate each type of Zionism, and examine primary sources, mostly taken from the book The Zionist Ideas edited by Gil Troy and Catch 67 by Micah Goodman.

The four sessions will cover:
1. Theodore Herzl, Rav Kook and the Jewish Homeland.
2. Labor Zionism and Revisionism.
3. Cultural Zionism, Martin Buber and Non-State Zionism.
4. David Hartman and the New Zionism.
