How To Create a Jewish Sexual Ethic

Tuesday, March 12 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

In the modern world, there are few sexual boundaries beyond pleasure and content. What do Jewish texts have to say about creating a sexual ethic, both within marriage and outside of what is traditionally sanctioned. Can we go deeper than what is permitted and prohibited to use foundational values to infuse our sexuality with greater meaning?

Rabbanit Nechama Goldman Barash is a respected educator in contemporary halakhah and Talmud, teaching at institutions like Matan, Midreshet Torah V’Avodah, and the Pardes Institute in Jerusalem. She specializes in lecturing on sexuality and halakhah, particularly through the Eden Center, focusing on enhancing women’s experiences in mikveh practices. Nechama, who relocated to Israel in 1991 and holds a BA from Stern College and a master’s in Talmud from Bar-Ilan University, is a certified Yoetzet Halacha from Nishmat and has studied extensively in Matan’s Hilkhata program. Beyond her teaching, she engages in interfaith dialogue through Roots and is an active member of the rabbinic organization Beit Hillel, living in Gush Etzion.
