Women Trailblazers of California: Pioneers to the Present with Dr. Gloria Harris

Monday, June 1, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Free

Throughout California’s history, remarkable women have been at the core of change and innovation. Rose Pesotta, a Jewish Immigrant, was the first woman elected to serve as vice president of the International Ladies Garment Workers Union; Marilyn Boxer, served as Chair of the nation’s first women’s studies program at San Diego State University. Visionary architect Julia Morgan designed Hearst Castle. Based on her co-authored book, Women Trailblazers of California, Dr. Gloria Harris will share the inspiring stories of twenty remarkable women who dared to take risks, broke down barriers, and made significant contributions to our state.

Dr. Gloria G. Harris earned her doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Washington. She coauthored Assertive Training for Women, Surviving Infidelity, Women Trailblazers of California, and Remarkable Women of San Diego.  Dr. Harris has served on numerous boards and commissions, including the Woman’s Museum of California, and was appointed by the County Board of Supervisors to serve on the Commission on the Status of Women (Chair, 2000) and the County Mental Health Advisory Board (Chair 2009). She has been named Mental Health America’s Volunteer of the Year and inducted into the San Diego Women’s Hall of Fame.
