The U.S., Israel, and the Middle East: What Now?
Conflicts rage in the Middle East and like it or not the new U.S. administration will have to develop policies for dealing with them. This talk will outline possibilities for the U.S. role in the battle with the Islamic State, the effort to constrain Iran, and the prospects for a way forward in relations between Israel and the Palestinians. It will also examine the divisions among American Jews over Trump and Israel.
Sanford Lakoff, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Political Science at UCSD, where he continues to teach. For a number of years he has offered an undergraduate course on the Government and Politics of the Middle East. He has lectured at many universities and public forums in North America and is the author or editor of 13 books and more than 50 scholarly articles and book chapters.
