Coronado High School Students Support Beth Israel’s Hunger Project

Every year, students in Eric Rempe’s classes at Coronado High School help fight hunger in San Diego by holding an Empty Bowls Fundraiser at the school. They, and local artisans, hand-craft beautiful ceramic bowls to sell at the fundraiser. Attendees select and purchase the bowl of their choosing for a $20 donation. Local restaurants provide a warm dinner of soup and bread. Participants take their bowl home as a reminder of the empty bowls of those living in poverty in our community.

Coronado High School then donates the proceeds to Beth Israel’s Hunger Project, which has partnered with St. Vincent de Paul Center in San Diego for a quarter century to serve meals to thousands of needy families. The students take their mitzvah full circle by volunteering to serve a meal at the Hunger Project, where they see first-hand what their efforts mean to San Diego’s homeless. This year 32 students served 711 adults and 13 children. Beth Israel applauds these amazing, dedicated students and their wonderful teacher, Eric Rempe, for their ongoing commitment to helping the homeless through their creative talents and hard work! THANK YOU!
