Can You Answer these Questions about the Brody Library?

By Librarian Anna Newton

Q: Does Beth Israel have a LIBRARY?
A: Yes we do, The Sophie & Arthur Brody Library has over 10,000 volumes.

Q: Where is the Brody Library located?
A: It’s on the 3rd floor, and yes, we have a wonderful elevator too!

Q: When is the Brody Library open for business?
A: On Tues and Thurs from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Q: Is that the only time the Brody Library is open?
A: Unfortunately, yes. Further, that answer is based on the fact that our librarian is part time, and there are only two part-time volunteers.

Q: How can we expand the number of days and hours that the Brody Library is open?
A: You can expand the hours by volunteering some of YOUR time to help out in the Library. You could volunteer as few as two hours a week – or more.

Q: What’s so great about the Brody Library?
A: We have different kinds of holdings and special collections; fiction, of course; a wide variety of reference books, including art and photograph collections; various books and sets of Judaica, as well as of other religions; cook books (really? Yes!); books on parenting; folk tales and superstitions; books about the Hebrew language as well as in the Hebrew language; children’s books of all kinds; magazines and newspapers; CDs; DVDs, VHSs.

Q: How do I take out some of these books?
A: You come to the Brody Library, choose your books, sign out on the card inside the book, and then go home and enjoy it. You have one month to read and then return the book. An alternate way is to come to Beth Israel on Saturday morning and visit our Mobile Library Book Cart and find a book there. REFERENCE BOOKS ARE ENJOYED ONLY IN THE LIBRARY.

Q: How can I find out if the Brody Library has a particular book that I want?
A: Go to the Beth Israel website at www.cbisd.org, click on the About Us tab, then click on Brody Library. On the Brody Library site, you can do many different things: choose “Search Our Library Catalogue.” Click and you will find on the top of that page the search box. Here you can refine your search using the “Anywhere” window.
