DayTimers Series: Guri Stark

Thursday, October 20, 2016 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

$5 – $8

“Degenerate Art” is the term Hitler used for all the art he didn’t like (which included all modern artists of the time). In this presentation, Guri Stark will acquaint us with the cultural and artistic renaissance in Berlin before the Nazis came to power and the obsession the Nazis had with modern art and culture. He will introduce a few of the artists who were considered “degenerate,” including Edvard Munch, Wassily Kandinsky, Paul Klee, Otto Dix, and Marc Chagall. Finally, we will learn about the recovery of stolen art by the Monuments Men at the end of the war, popularized by the recent movie of that name.

Guri Stark is an artist, author, lecturer and high-tech professional. His multi-media lectures on art and music all over the world provide a unique perspective by combining the artists’ personal biographies, art history, and world historical events that influenced the artists.

DayTimers monthly programs are open to the whole community. Please RSVP below at least one week in advance or to Program Director Ilene Tatro at itatro@cbisd.org, 858 900-2516. Fee: $5 with RSVP, $8 without RSVP.
