Who Wrote the Bible?

Wednesday, March 2, 2016 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

|Recurring Event (See all)

An event every week that begins at 10:00 am on Wednesday, repeating until Wednesday, March 9, 2016

Wednesday mornings, March 2 and 9, 2016

Instructor: Noah Hadas

Fee: $18 Members; $25 Non-Members

The traditional view is that God wrote the Torah and it is a “perfect” document. In this class, Noah Hadas, an inspirational teacher of Jewish Studies, focuses our attention on the Torah as a man-made document.

What are the reasons for two different versions of the Creation, Flood and Covenant stories in Genesis? Why is Aaron, the future High Priest of Israel, portrayed committing idolatry in the golden calf story in the Book of Exodus?

Put on your detective hat as Noah Hadas introduces us to “The Documentary Hypothesis,” a product of modern biblical scholarship, which describes the Torah as composed of four different sources combined into one continuous history. Once we have knowledge of the historical basis for each of these sources and what was going on in the Biblical world at the time each source was authored, the Torah’s inconsistencies and perplexities become understandable.

Please RSVP online one week ahead below. For more information, contact Program Director Bonnie Graff at bgraff@cbisd.org or call (858) 535-1111 ext. 2519.
