Statewide Ballot Measures: Nonpartisan Voter Information Session

Wednesday, January 15, 2020 @ 6:30 pm

Free

If you have ever turned on the TV (or opened your mail box) within a couple of weeks of an election, you’ve probably seen all of the commercials for propositions and local measures that will be on the ballot.  The onslaught can often make it confusing to decipher what a yes or no vote would really accomplish. Don’t lose focus on the dozens of candidates.  Come learn about those propositions and who’s supporting/paying for the “lovely” adds.  The session, led by Jason Bercovitch, will specifically focus on WHAT each proposition would accomplish, and WHICH elected officials/organizations are lining up in support or against the measure.

The Sage Hillel taught “Al tifros min hatzibur, Do not separate yourself from the community” (Pirke Avot 2:5). As Jews and American citizens, we have an obligation to participate in the elections to ensure that our country’s policies at the local, state and national levels reflect our commitment to social justice. Every vote counts and plays a defining role in setting policy agendas. It is our civic duty to register promptly, educate ourselves about the critical issues and VOTE!  Early voting and voting by mail begins February 3rd. The last day to register to vote is February 18th — however, starting with this election March 3, 2020, California now allows same-day conditional voter registration at all polling locations and vote centers (but better to get it done sooner!). Click here to confirm your status or Register to Vote!
