Men’s Club Dinner Forum with Louis Frankenthaler, IRAC: Fighting for a Jewish and Democratic Israel – in Times of War and Peace

Wednesday, April 17 @ 6:30 am - 8:00 pm

$20

Please join for the Men’s Club Dinner Forum on Wednesday, April 17 for dinner and socializing followed by our featured speaker, Louis Frankenthaler, IRAC. There is also a Zoom option for those unable to attend in person.

The Israeli Religious Action Center (IRAC) is dedicated to securing civil rights for a democratic, just and egalitarian Israel based on Israeli law and Jewish tradition. IRAC’s ongoing efforts focus on:

• Advancing freedom of and from religion, and ensuring equal status for Reform and Conservative rabbis, synagogues, and institutions.

• Advancing racial equality and combatting hate.

• Protecting the rights of converts and immigrants to become Israeli citizens and enjoy equal rights.

IRAC’s work in these areas, including opposition to the government’s proposed judicial reforms, gained an added emphasis since October 7. In the past months IRAC has worked with the Israel Movement for Reform and Progressive Judaism (IMPJ) to organize Shabbat and Havdalah ceremonies in solidarity with the families of the hostages and the communities that were attacked, respond to increasing racism toward Arab citizens of Israel and demand equality in sharing the military burden.

Louis Frankenthaler, speaking to us from Jerusalem, will highlight IRAC’s accomplishments to date and give us a sense of the challenges ahead.

The monthly Dinner Forum is designed to bring to Beth Israel a person with expertise on a topic of interest for all adult members. This program, proudly sponsored by the Men’s Club, is open to ALL members of Beth Israel and the entire San Diego community.

Before the talk, come socialize and enjoy a deli meal starting at 6:30 pm. The dinner fee is $20 (pay online, or at the door by cash or check only). Please RSVP below, by Friday, April 12 (pay online or at the door), so we can plan for enough seating, food and desserts for everyone.

Louis Frankenthaler is the Director of Resource Development at the Israel Religious Action Center (IRAC). Louis came to IRAC after working for more than two decades with human rights NGOs. Born in the United States, Louis moved to Israel in 1995 and now lives with his family in West Jerusalem. He is working on completing his PhD at Ben Gurion University and has an MA in Jewish Education from the Hebrew University and a BA in History from Ithaca College in the United States. He also spent time in a progressive rabbinical seminary. Some of his political essays have appeared in +972, Souciant , Zeek and in Global Dialogue.
