Hike with Mike

 Beth Israel is hosting Rabbi Mike Comins, author and founder of Torah Trek, the Center for Jewish Wilderness Spirituality for a special Scholar-in-Residence: Earth Day Weekend.
Friday, April 21
6:15 p.m. Erev Shabbat Service with sermon by Rabbi Mike Comins, followed by an Oneg. Special Study Circle with Rabbi Mike Comins in Social Hall after Oneg.
Saturday, April 22
Escape to Julian for the day to join up with our Family Camp Weekend. This unique “Hike with Mike” Day Pass is $50/person and includes:
  • 7:45 am Transportation to/from Camp Marston (bus leaves from Beth Israel)
  • 9:00 am Outdoor Saturday Morning T’feliah Service
  • 9:30 am-Noon Hike with Rabbi Mike Comins
  • Noon Lunch at Camp Marston
  • 1:00 pm Bus departs camp
  • 2:15 pm Bus arrives back at Beth Israel

About Rabbi Mike Comins
Rabbi Mike Comins is the Founder of TorahTrek.  He grew up in Los Angeles, graduated from the University of California in Los Angeles (UCLA) with a BA in Near Eastern Studies, and served as regional advisor for the Southern California Federation of Temple Youth and Rosh Eida at UAHC Camp Swig before making aliyah (moving to Israel) at age 26. He founded TorahTrek Spiritual Wilderness Adventures in 2001. Currently, Rabbi Comins lives in Los Angeles with his wife, Jody Porter.
He continues to grow TorahTrek, and devotes himself to writing and teaching.
A Wild Faith: Jewish Ways into Wilderness, Wilderness Ways into Judaism (Jewish Lights Publishing; AWildFaith) appeared in 2007 and his second book, Making Prayer Real: Leading Jewish Spiritual Voices on Why Prayer is Difficult and What to Do about It  (Jewish Lights Publishing; MakingPrayerReal) was published in 2010.  Rabbi Comins also contributes to various books and periodicals.
