Cooking with Caring Community with Rabbi Jeremy Gimbel

Monday, April 25, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Learn a new recipe and provide a Mitzvah all in one evening. Join us for another Cooking Caring Community evening. Our hosts will welcome you into their home and demonstrate a family recipe or a favorite holiday dish. Once you have prepared the meal you will donate half to our Fill the Freezer Program that supports delivery of Mi Sheberach (healing) Bags to those in our community who are dealing with illness or loss or celebrating the birth of a child. This month, Rabbi Gimbel will share his favorite go-to split pea soup for Pesach. This event takes places on Zoom.

Ingredients needed & prepped:
  • 1 yellow onion, diced
  • 3 carrots, peeled and diced
  • 3 ribs celery, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (but more never hurts!)
  • 1 lb. dry split peas (green or yellow)
  • 2 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 bay leaf (I use about 4 or 5)
  • ½ Tbsp smoked paprika
  • ¼ tsp thyme
  • Freshly cracked pepper
  • 6 cups vegetable broth (chicken broth or consume also works)
Rabbi Gimbel will be using a pressure cooker for this demonstration, but a slow cooker or stovetop simmer will also work (it will just take more time).
