Be the life of the Shabbat table when you show off your newfound challah braiding skills, courtesy of our special virtual guest and expert challah braider/baker, The Challah Prince, Idan Chabasov! This braiding demo is part of our Shabbat San Diego offerings at Beth Israel. Shabbat San Diego is an independent grassroots level community-wide, inclusive and egalitarian organization of volunteers dedicated to encouraging the entire San Diego Jewish community to participate in a unique, international Jewish identity event that inspires all Jews to experience Shabbat together on November 10-13. The International Unity Shabbat will occur in more than 1500 cities, 97 countries, and 10 languages around the globe.
Join us in person in the Social Hall while we stream The Challah Prince on screen direct from Israel as he walks us through the steps of making and braiding beautiful and delicious challah while sharing his Jewish journey to challah, reminding us that it is more than a traditional food – it is also a therapeutic process that brings joy and intentionality to the moment. Even if the results are not as expected, follow the challah braid wherever it may lead.
