New members are always welcome to this stimulating evening book club. The schedule for this year is as follows:
October 23 My Promised Land; The Triumph and Tragedy of Israel by Ari Shavit – a leading Israeli Journalist examines the present and future of Israel. The discussion will be led by John Yochelson.
November 20 The Mapmaker’s Daughter by Laurel Corona. A novel about the time of expulsion in Spain. The author will attend. The discussion will be led by Cecile Jordan.
December 18 An Officer and a Spy by Robert Harris. A fictional account of the Dreyfus affair. The discussion will be led by Arnie Gass.
January 15 An American Dervish by Ayad Akhtar. An account of an American Mulim’s boy coming to grips with his religion and his place in America. The discussion will be led by Ilene Miltman.
February 19 Suddenly Love by Aharon Appelfeld. A winner of the Israel Prize for Literature develops a profound story of love, religious belief and observance. The discussion will be led by John Urey.
March 19 and April 16 Either Jobotinsky by Hillel Halkin or The Israeli Solution (A One State Plan for Peace in the Middle East) by Caroline Glick.
May 21 The Paris Architect by Charles Belfoure . A story set in World War II Paris. The discussion will be led by Charles Miltman.
