A Holistic Approach to Bereavement & Loss through the Arts
Express Yourself · Art Therapy and Jewish Text · Writing · Poetry and Prayer Join us for a series on a Holistic Approach to Bereavement. We will use artful ways to express, process and cope with loss. There is no right or wrong way to grieve, whatever your loss, it is personal to you. Group members will explore a profound healing process through various expressive and creative writing experiences. Join one session or join them all. Space is limited. Bereavement through Our Own Voice: Dec 5, 12, 19 and Jan 2 - Cost $60 Wednesdays @ 10:00 - 11:30 am Led by: Rabbi Aliza Berk, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Jewish Educator, Chaplain and Spiritual Director. We will share stories of personal loss and also address the social, emotional, religious and spiritual dimensions of loss from a Jewish perspective using niggunim (songs without words), poetry, Jewish texts, and guided meditation. Bereavement through Expressive Art Therapy and Jewish Text: Jan 9, 16, 23, 30 - Cost $90 (includes art supplies) Wednesdays @ 7 - 8:30 pm Led by: Rabbi Aliza Berk and Natalie Sery Cruz, MA, Expressive Arts Therapist. Exploring grief and loss through Jewish text and various creative experiences, including collage, clay, music and land art. No previous art experience necessary. Come honor your own creative process. Bereavement through Writing: Feb 6, 13, 20, 27- Cost $60 Wednesdays @ 10:00 - 11:30 am Led by: Gail Braverman, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Certified Art Therapist, Certified Amherst Writers and Artists workshop leader, Yoga instructor. Group members will explore a profound healing process through various expressive and creative writing experiences. Bereavement through Poetry and Prayer: March 13, 20 (Erev Purim), 27 & April 3 - Cost $60 Wednesdays @ 10:00 - 11:30 am Led by: Rabbi Aliza Berk. During this session, we will immerse ourselves into our ancient Jewish texts, modern poetry and other contemporary writings, focusing on the restorative power of poetry, psalms and personal prayer to heal our souls from personal loss.
