Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin

Thursday, May 7, 2015 @ 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm

Beth Israel is proud to be a Community Partner for the Anti-Defamation League San Diego’s presentation of the Defiant Requiem: Verdi at Terezin at the Jacobs Music Center/Copley Symphony Hall on May 7, 2015.

This moving multi-media concert-drama tells the story of the courageous Jewish prisoners in the Theresienstadt Concentration Camp (Terezin) during World War II who performed the famous Verdi Requiem Mass while experiencing the depths of human degradation and facing imminent death. This concert-drama combines the magnificent orchestration of Verdi with video testimony from surviving members of the original prisoner choir, actors embedded in the orchestra, and original Nazi propaganda film footage made at Theresienstadt. The performance is powerful, dramatic and inspirational, with a contemporary message of hope.

We would like to encourage you to join us in attending this event. All funds raised through this event will go directly to ADL San Diego’s Education Programs. The program will take place at Jacobs Music Center/Copley Symphony Hall. We expect to welcome over 2000 San Diegans from across our community to this event.
