Rabbi Bernstein Israel Travel Scholarship Fund

The Rabbi Bernstein Israel Travel Scholarship Fund will offer scholarships based on financial need for Youth and or Adults participating in approved Israel experience programs. Whether the travel is to study, do advocacy work, intern, or just have an adventure, the goal is to strengthen Jewish identity, nourish a greater understanding and commitment to Israel and create a strong connection with its people.

This is a needs-based financial scholarship program.  If the applicant meets the criteria and is approved, they will be awarded a grant ranging from $500 to $1,500, depending on funds available.

Who qualifies?

To apply, you must be a member in good standing at Beth Israel.

What type of trip qualifies?

In order to be eligible for a scholarship, a qualifying trip must be sponsored and organized by a Jewish organization with a set itinerary, or

Be a self-organized trip with a clear itinerary that includes education tours, programs and experiences for each day.

  • Be a minimum of seven days
  • Include high-impact and meaningful Jewish content

What funding is available?

  • Individuals can apply for reimbursement of 50% of the cost of a trip up to $1,500.
  • The maximum funding a family may receive is $5,000.

For self-organized trips (individual and family), only the following will be reimbursed:

  • Flight expenses
  • Lodging expenses
  • Ground transportation (rental car and parking only)
  • Educational tours and expenses.

How do I apply for funding?

Completed applications and your personal statement must be submitted at least four weeks prior to trip departure. Please note that generally, financial need is the criterion, but incentive awards are given as well.
