Joth has been a member of Beth Israel since the early 60s. Growing up in Chula Vista, his family attended holidays and services at Beth Israel at Third and Laurel. While growing up, Joth attended Beth Israel religious school, had his bar mitzvah, and was involved in the youth choir. In the ’90s, Joth chaired the Beth Israel Young Jewish Network program. During this time, Joth met his wife Robin through Jewish Family Service and married at Beth Israel in 1998. Together they also participated in The Jewish Federation’s Young Professionals program. Beth Israel is also where their twins Garrett and Rachel began their Jewish congregational journey with Beth Israel Babies (BIBS) in 1999. Joth has continued to be involved with the community, enjoying his time as a member of the adult choir and volunteering with Men’s Club events and the Hunger Project. His passion for the Beth Israel community passed to his children, who were both involved with the youth choir and BITY, as well as having their B’nai mitzvah in 2013.

Joth received his bachelor’s degree in physics at UCSD and his master’s in mechanical engineering from SDSU and retired in 2020 after 32 years as a Structures Engineer in the aerospace field with Rohr Industries in Chula Vista. Joth enjoys bicycling, rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, skiing, working on mechanical projects, and gardening, and now that Robin and Joth are both retired, they are looking forward to many years of travel.
