Bagel Breakfast with Professor Shai Feldman, President of Sapir College
Wednesday, January 29, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 10:30 am
FreeTopic: “The Western Negev and Gaza: Caught in the Paradoxes of the Broader Middle East”
Prof. Shai Feldman is the President of Sapir Academic College in Sha’ar Hanegev (near Sderot). He was born in Jerusalem – his family dates there as far back as the mid-1850s — but he grew up in Rehovoth. In 1997-2005, he served as Head of Tel Aviv University’s Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies (since then renamed as the Institute for National Security Studies – INSS). He was a Senior Research Associate at the Jaffee Center since its inception in early 1978. Since 2005 and until August 2019 he served as the Founding Director of the Crown Center for Middle East Studies and Professor of Politics at Brandeis University.
Prof. Feldman is also a member of the Board of Directors of Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs. He is the author of 6 books related to the Arab-Israeli conflict. His most recent book (with Abdel Monem Said Aly and Khalil Shikaki), Arabs and Israelis: Conflict and Peacemaking in the Middle East, was published by Palgrave Macmillan in December 2013. To date it is the only textbook on the history of the conflict to have been co-authored by an Israeli, a Palestinian, and an Egyptian.
This event is free, but please RSVP for planning purposes.
This event is in partnership with the Israel & Overseas Department of Jewish Federation of San Diego County.
