Meal Provision for Rachel’s Women’s Center
Sunday, August 14, 2016 @ 5:15 pm - 6:15 pm
Congregation Beth Israel is one of many organizations that brings and serves dinner to 25 – 30 women at Rachel’s House on a given evening. The Women of Beth Israel and their family/friends have been involved with this project for over 20 years. Our goal is to ensure there are enough human resources on the second Sunday of every other month (and also Christmas night) to nourish the current residents of the day center and shelter, so we coordinate and count on magnanimous volunteers like you to help us achieve that goal.
Rachel’s Night Shelter provides overnight, emergency, short/midterm, safe and sober shelter for homeless women. It was established by Catholic Charities in 1980 as the first transitional residence for homeless women in San Diego County and operates as a drop-in day center for homeless and very low income women, where they can find the following services:
-
- Drop in day center
- Safe and sober environment
- Bathroom, shower, and laundry facilities
- Lunch service
- Replacement clothing
- Mailing address
- Alcohol/drug recovery services
- Mental health screening and referrals
- Medical Screening
- Resource Specialist on site
- Socialization activities
- Health and wellness activities and educationTo sign-up for a volunteer slot, follow this link.
