Early Childhood Center FAQ
The Bill and Sid Rubin Preschool is based on the spirit of community where children, parents, and staff feel a strong sense of partnership and belonging. We believe that our children benefit from this strong relationship between family and school. As a Jewish synagogue and preschool, we are a meeting ground for a variety of individuals and families. We welcome all children, regardless of religion, race, or cultural background to experience our exciting, nurturing program which incorporates both Jewish and universal vales such as Tikkun Olam (healing the world), Tzedakah (charity and justice), and equal rights for all. We also believe that children learn best in an environment that promotes active and experiential learning through trial and discovery.
Each of our classrooms provide developmentally appropriate activities throughout the day. Our children have structured and unstructured exploration opportunities in the classrooms and on the playgrounds. Our preschoolers enjoy Havdalah and Shabbat with our Clergy team.
Our school strives to keep low ratios to provide the best in care. Our younger infants and toddlers have a ratio of one adult to every 3 or 4 children. Our older toddlers have a ratio of one adult to every 6 children. Our preschool classes have 10-14 children with at least 2 teachers.
No! The Bill and Sid Rubin Preschool is open to all families. Temple membership is not a requirement for enrollment at our school.
After graduating from our program, our students attend a variety of schools in San Diego. We have students attending their neighborhood school, as well as Kavod Charter School, the San Diego Jewish Academy, Francis Parker, and La Jolla Country Day.
Connection between parents, teachers, and staff is central to our philosophy. Through email updates, photos and daily one-on-one conversations, communication is paramount to the growth and development of our children.

We recognize that children learn in many ways - through artwork, dance, music, language, and literature. Our educators support creative thinking by providing open-ended materials that inspire children to ask questions, investigate, and share what they learn.
