Are you worried about a youth aged 12-18 in your life?

Are you interested in learning more about youth mental health and how to support a young person you care about?

Join us for Youth Mental Health First Aid, an evidence-based training that will teach you how to:

  • Recognize signs and symptoms of mental health challenges in young people
  • Use a 5-step mental health first aid action plan (ALGEE)
Interact with a young person in crisis
  • Connect a young person with professional help
  • Address stigma and explain that recovery is possible
  • Encourage young people to practice self-care

This seven hour training will include two hours of individual pre-work followed by two, 2.5 hour in-person sessions. The participant fee ($50 for both sessions) covers the cost of the materials, including a Participant Manual and Processing Guide, as well as the training facilitation and a YMHFA certification that is valid for three years.

Reach out to Rachel Wegner () for more information.

Rachel Wegner is a lifelong educator and spent almost a dozen years in the classroom teaching elementary and high school students. She then spent nine years as an administrator for a highly alternative charter school that served young adults who had previously been pushed out of the traditional education system. Currently, she works for the San Diego County Office of Education in the Student Wellness and School Culture department, supporting schools across the county with suicide prevention and mental health promotion.

Rachel and her family are avid travelers, readers, social justice advocates, beach-goers and campers. It was on a year-long RV trip where they first realized how much Beth Israel meant to them while they were sitting squashed together on their RV sofa watching the live stream of the High Holy day services from the middle of Montana, very much missing their community. Since their return from that trip, they have re-committed and re-engaged in temple life and are forever grateful for the second home and safe space Beth Israel provides.
