Unorthodox Jewish Art: Graphic Novels and Folk Art with Jane Lazerow

Tuesday, December 8, 2020 @ 10:00 am - 11:30 am

Free

Tuesdays, December 8 and 15, 2020 10:00am-11:30am

Can comic book art be a fitting medium to interpret our sacred texts?  Can a graphic novel shed new light on modern Jewish history?  Is this another kind of midrash?  What value can there be in a medium traditionally read by children?

We will look at this form of popular art and ask what it can teach us.  Examining biblical narratives, modern history, and personal stories translated into pictures with words will be both fun and enlightening.

Artist and Educator Jane Lazerow holds an MFA from UCSD and has had her art exhibited throughout San Diego since the early 1980’s. Her unique shared expertise of art and Judaism is the key that unlocks how she will share with us the evolution of Jewish imagery through the ages. She herself paints ancient stories and myths, biblical narratives, and personal dramas with a focus on human interactions.

There is no fee, but please RSVP for planning purposes. This event is held virtually on Zoom. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the event.
