Bringing community together through learning & conversation. Come occasionally or come every week. These eclectic and lively discussions about the week’s Torah portion consider the text through traditional and modern commentaries, as well as through the lenses of history, ethics, sociology and psychology. Insightful and frequently provocative, Torah Study at Beth Israel will prompt you to engage with the text in new ways. Young and old, scholars and beginners are all welcome.

This Saturday: God's Promise to Remain Present: Jewish Community as a Pillar of Hope in Times of Despair

In this week's Torah portion, vayeitze, God promises to be with Jacob throughout his journey, no matter where he travels. Scholar in Residence Rabbi Yael Vurgan will discuss how she has called upon tradition, prayer, and rituals to develop and maintain sacred Jewish community, after kibbutzim from the Sha'ar HaNegev region were displaced and as they plan to rebuild.  (diverse access, join us here).
