Strange Talmud Stories, Big Ideas

In this class, we’ll study several of the strangest, richest, and fascinating stories in the Talmud, and use them as jumping-off points to discuss some of Judaism’s biggest and most important ideas, such as Life after Death; Living with Difference; Learning and Teaching; Parents and Children; and Love and Friendship. We’ll engage in a close reading of the stories, demonstrating their literary brilliance, and radical, timeless relevance. We’ll learn how the Talmud uses narrative as a way to teach ideas. We’ll also share our own thoughts on these crucial topics, and discover how reading these stories can inform and shape our lives.

There is no fee, but please RSVP for planning purposes. This event is held virtually on Zoom. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the event.
