San Diego Italian Film Festival presents: “Shores of Light”

Sunday, October 9, 2016 @ 5:30 pm - 8:00 pm

Join the San Diego Italian Film Festival as we celebrate the sharing of the two cultures featured in the film, “Shores of Light”.

From 1945 to 1947 the people of Puglia and and Jewish survivors of Nazi concentration camps developed a symbiotic relationship through the sharing of food and skills that renewed a sense of life and purpose for all. Holocaust survivor, Fini Horowtiz, remembers that Pugliese villagers, “were as hungry as we were because they also have survived a war…. The joy of fishermen that finally have something to eat was great. They invited everybody … to…join. I don’t think there are any other people, any other place, other population that one can speak similarly of them.”

Stars of San Diego Italian cuisine are coming together to prepare a menu inspired by food of Puglia and what Italian cookery writer, Marcella Hazan, found in the kitchen of her Jewish mother in law, “an Italian cooking of which I knew nothing, the cooking of the Italian Jews.”

Please join us to recreate the spirit of this very special moment in time!
