WEDNESDAY, APRIL 16
Dinner 6:30 – 7:00 pm; Speaker 7:00 – 8:00 pm
Join us in the Feuerstein Family Activity Center
Sharpness of vision is essential for success in sports. A baseball batter, for example, needs to determine the type of pitch, predict the location of the ball when it crosses home plate, and coordinate the swing to contact the ball. All of this needs to happen in less than a third of a second. No wonder that hitting a baseball is considered the hardest thing to do in sports. Dr. David Kirschen, a Beth Israel member, will discuss visual demands of elite athletes and how he and his colleagues work with many pro baseball teams to test, remediate, and enhance performance on the field.
Please join us on April 16 at 6:30 pm for a Passover-friendly buffet dinner, followed by the presentation and discussion from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. ALL adult members of the congregation are welcome! A Zoom option is available for those unable to attend in person.
The fee is $20 to attend in person and enjoy the buffet dinner; payment may be made online, or at the door by cash or check ONLY. For planning purposes, we have to assume that everyone attending in person will enjoy the meal and share the cost. If you prefer to “listen only” please join remotely via Zoom.
Please RSVP below no later than Friday, April 11 so we can plan for enough seating and food for everyone.

Dr. David Kirschen earned both OD and PhD degrees from The University of California, Berkeley. In addition to his private optometric practice, he has worked with many professional sports teams and the2008 US Olympic Team and was honored with the AOA Sports Vision Optometrist of the Year Award.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, Dr. Kirschen also served as President of the AOA Foundation. He is Professor Emeritus of Optometry and Visual Science at the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University and was formerly Chief of Binocular Vision and Orthoptic Services at UCLA's Jules Stein's Eye Institute. Author of over 56 papers and 5 textbook chapters, Dr. KIrschen has lectured extensively in the United States and abroad.
PLEASE BRING Art Supplies to Send to Israel Preschools!
Men’s Club is supporting a new, yearlong project by Beth Israel’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program to collect and send much needed art supplies to pre-schools in Israel. After filling a suitcase with art supplies, ECE will ask a preschool family to deliver it when they travel to Israel or when a family member returns to Israel from a visit here. ECE also welcomes donations of used suitcases for that 1-way trip to Israel.
Men’s Club will collect your donated art supplies at this Speaker's Forum and Dinner at our future events. You can also bring your donations any time to the pre-school office. Please choose art supplies suitable for pre-schoolers and safe to ship (e.g., no liquids or permanent markers), Examples include washable markers, crayons, stickers, safety scissors, colored pencils, glue sticks, colored tape/ribbon and construction paper, modeling clay or Play-doh, pipe cleaners. THANK YOU!
