Men’s Club Monthly Forum – Rabbi Jason Nevarez

Wednesday, July 14, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Join us for our July monthly forum featuring our very own Senior Rabbi, Jason Nevarez. He will review the current state of Beth Israel, our role in the San Diego Jewish community and what we can look forward to as we start to reopen and bring people back to our campus. Following, there will be a Q&A: Ask The Rabbi – on Beth Israel related topics, or on a more personal level.

We will also be having a short installation ceremony for the newly voted in Men’s Club Board for 2021-2022.

Originally from New York City, Rabbi Nevarez graduated from the Bronx High School of Science, and went to the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he received his BA in 1998. He was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 2006, where he earned Master’s degrees in both Hebrew Literature and Religious Education, and was the recipient of a number of scholarships, in addition to several academic prizes in Jewish education. Rabbi Nevarez served the past 17 years at Temple Shaaray Tefila, Bedford NY, before making the move to San Diego & Beth Israel.

As part of his congregational portfolio, Rabbi Nevarez has had the opportunity to do outreach, educational, and social justice work both in Israel and Latin America. He has also been able to marry his global learning experiences with his passion for innovation and immersive learning/education across the generations he serves. He continues to help foster a congregation of learners and enjoys working closely with families in individual/family pastoral counseling. Rabbi Nevarez is an alum of the STAR (Synagogues: Transformation and Renewal) Executive Leadership Program, UJA-NY’s Inaugural Rabbinic Fellowship for Visionary Leaders, and immediate Past-Chair of the Northern Westchester Interfaith Council. He was also on the Executive Committee of the Westchester Board of Rabbis and the Board of Bedford 2020, an organization focused on reducing carbon emissions and preserving natural resources. He maintains ongoing community involvement and sees the sacred work of the synagogue as ever striving to reach beyond its walls. He continues to serve as a mentor for Rabbinical students at HUC-JIR, the Reform Movement’s Flagship Seminary, helping them to enhance their Rabbinic skill sets while serving as rabbinic interns for congregations.

Rabbi Nevarez lives in Carmel Valley with his wife, Nicole, his partner and lifelong friend, and their two children, Ethan and Sophie.

This program is open to the entire San Diego community, both men and women. Temple or Men’s Club Membership is not a requirement to participate.
There is no fee, but please RSVP for planning purposes. This event is held virtually on Zoom. After registering, you will receive an email containing information on how to join the event.
