Men’s Club Monthly Forum – Abe Vorensky

Wednesday, October 20, 2021 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Why are Jews funny? Better stated, why do we love humor and why do we make it such a major part of our personalities?

In 1978, Time magazine claimed that 80% of all stand-up comedians in the United States were Jewish. There are plenty of theories to explain why Jews live, breath and love giving and receiving things that are funny. Even Sigmund Fraud pitched in with a few theories.

This class will explore why and also focus on those wonderful comedians who lived to make us laugh.

Abe Vorensky possesses a lifelong love and depth of knowledge comedy, specifically it’s diverse history. This love began when Abe served up songs and jokes as a teenage MC in a Catskill mountain hotel. Through the years, Abe has remained an enthusiastic comedy historian focusing on how Jewish humor has played major role in our personal, social and political thought.

This program is open to the entire San Diego community, both men and women. Temple or Men’s Club Membership is not a requirement to participate.
