Men’s Club Dinner Forum May 2017

Lawrence Baron –  Professor Emeritus of Modern Jewish History

Beth Israel’s Men’s Club is pleased to announce that Professor Lawrence Baron will be our guest speaker at our May 2017 Dinner Forum. Professor Baron will provide all of us with insight into “The Wandering View: The Jewish Immigrant in World Cinema.”

Professor Baron is Professor Emeritus of Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University. He taught Modern Jewish History at San Diego State University, where he served as Director of the Lipinsky Institute for Judaic Studies between 1988 and 2006. He was also the Ida King visiting Professor at the Richard Stockton University of New Jersey in the Fall of 2015.

He was educated at the University of Illinois-Urbana, and the University of Wisconsin – Madison, where he earned a Ph.D. in Modern European Intellectual History. Professor Baron is also the author of The Modern Jewish Experience in World Cinema and Projecting the Holocaust into the Present: The Changing Focus of Contemporary Holocaust Cinema.

Professor Baron also writes for the San Diego Jewish World and has authored many publications including; The Altruistic Personality: Rescuers of Jews in Nazi Europe and Projecting the Holocaust into the Present: The Changing Focus of Contemporary Holocaust Cinema.

This program is open to the entire San Diego community, both men and women. Temple or Men’s Club membership is not a requirement to attend. A buffet dinner will be served. The dinner fee is $15.00 with an RSVP and $18.00 without an RSVP. You can RSVP below.
