Just asking that question begins to answer it. Rabbi Ackerman Hirsch will engage us in discussing what distinguishes Reform Judaism from other Jewish denominations; what led to the formation of Reform Judaism; and what it means to be a Reform Jew in the 21st century in the United States.

ALL adult members of the congregation are welcome to join the Men's Club on December 18 for our monthly Speaker’s Forum. The evening begins at 6:30 PM with a deli dinner, followed by the presentation and discussion from 7:00 to 8:00 PM. The dinner fee is $20; pay online, or at the door by cash or check. A Zoom option is available for those unable to attend in person.

Please RSVP below no later than December 13, so we can plan for enough seating and food.

Rabbi Ackerman Hirsch was recently ordained as a rabbi at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute for Religion in Los Angeles, CA. She received a Master’s in Educational Leadership (MEdL) from the Rhea Hirsch School of Education in 2022. Rabbi Ackerman Hirsch has lived all over the West Coast-she grew up in California and Arizona and went to college in Tacoma, Washington. Her love of Judaism was nurtured through her family’s weekly Shabbat dinners with her grandparents and through her experiences in religious school and attending Jewish theater summer camp. Rabbi Ackerman Hirsch graduated from the University of Puget Sound with a Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences (Biology emphasis) and minor in Science, Technology, and Society. After graduating, she worked in the medical technology startup space before realizing that she needed more spirituality and Judaism in her day-to-day life. Full bio here.

The monthly Speaker Forum brings to Beth Israel distinguished speakers with expertise on a variety of topics. ALL adult members of the congregation are welcome! A Zoom option is available for those unable to attend in person.

Art Supplies to Send to Israel Preschools

PLEASE BRING Art Supplies to Send to Israel Preschools! Men’s Club is supporting a new, yearlong project by Beth Israel’s Early Childhood Education (ECE) program to send much needed art supplies to pre-schools in Israel. After filling a suitcase with art supplies, ECE will ask a preschool family to deliver it when they travel to Israel or when a family member returns to Israel from a visit here. ECE also welcomes donations of used suitcases for that 1-way trip to Israel.

Men’s Club will collect your donated art supplies at this Speaker Forum and our future events. You can also bring your donations any time to the preschool office.

Please choose art supplies suitable for preschoolers and safe to ship (e.g., no liquids or permanent markers), Examples include washable markers, crayons, stickers, safety scissors, colored pencils, glue sticks, colored tape/ribbon and construction paper, modeling clay or Play-doh, pipe cleaners. THANK YOU!
