Stories of Women’s Empowerment: A Screening of Little Stones

Wednesday, January 31, 2018 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Free

Join American Jewish World Service (AJWS), Congregation Beth Israel, the Jewish Community Foundation of San Diego and the San Diego Jewish Film Festival for a special screening of Little Stones.

This powerful documentary weaves together the stories of four women who use art to create social change—from a graffiti artist speaking out against domestic violence in the favelas of Brazil to a dancer rehabilitating sex-trafficking survivors in India, a hip hop star sparking dialogue around female genital mutilation in Senegal and a fashion designer fostering women’s economic empowerment in Kenya.

After the screening, join us for a panel discussion and audience Q&A with the Emmy Award-winning filmmaker behind Little Stones, Sophia Kruz, AJWS President and CEO Robert Bank, and Rabbi Alyson Solomon of Congregation Beth Israel. Panel moderator: TBD.

Dessert reception following film and panel discussion.

Women of Beth Israel will be conducting a collection at the event. Please bring small toiletries and unused cosmetic samples to be donated to the women of Rachel’s Women’s Center.

Inspired by the Jewish commitment to justice, American Jewish World Service (AJWS) works to realize human rights and end poverty in the developing world.
