Session 1 – 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. Visions of Hope: Moving Forward from a Heart-Centered Place
In this session led by Rabbi Susan Freeman, we will explore definitions of hope in times of distress; reflect on the hopes we choose to embrace now; consider practices for physical, emotional, and spiritual experiences of hope; and envision what it means to move forward from a heart-centered place.
Rabbi Susan Freeman serves at Jewish Family Service of San Diego (JFS) and is a director in the Center for Jewish Care. A chaplain and ACPE Certified Educator, she has taught Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Sharp HealthCare and VITAS Hospice in San Diego and plans to teach this Fall at UCSD Healthcare. Originally from Denver, CO, Susan has her M.A. in Hebrew Literature and Rabbinic Ordination from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Other professional experiences include congregational rabbi, education director, and writer. Rabbi Freeman’s book publications are: To Dwell in Your House: Vignettes and Spiritual Reflections on Caregiving at Home, Torah in Motion: Creating Dance Midrash (co-author), Teaching Jewish Virtues: Sacred Sources and Arts Activities, and Teaching Hot Topics Jewish Values, Resources, and Activities.Â
