DayTimers Speaker Series: Matthew Hall

Thursday, November 15, 2018 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

$5 – $8

Topic: Fake News, Real Problem.

Fake news is a real problem. Journalists’ credibility is under siege almost daily in this digital age where it’s so easy to share misinformation or disinformation. Real news combats this with honesty, fairness and a diversity of viewpoints. Its only agenda is a search for the truth. Join Matthew T. Hall, the editorial and opinion director at The San Diego Union-Tribune and a national board member of the Society of Professional Journalists, to discuss a societal scourge — and get a crash course in citizen journalism.

Matthew T. Hall is the editorial and opinion director at The San Diego Union-Tribune, where he has worked since 2001. He manages the Ideas and Opinion section, writing and editing editorials, and overseeing a Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoon, op-ed commentary, letters to the editor and a blog called “The Conversation,” which shares the news of the day in immersive, dynamic and often funny ways, using social media. He previously managed the newsroom’s social media and before that was a columnist and a reporter. He is past president and a current board member of the San Diego chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists and also a national SPJ board member.

DayTimers monthly programs are open to the whole community. Please RSVP below at least one week in advance or to Program Director Ilene Tatro at itatro@cbisd.org, 858 900-2516. Fee: $5 with RSVP, $8 without RSVP.
