Awareness, Wisdom, Transformation: Jewish Tradition and the Inner Life
Thursday, August 31, 2017 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
An event every week that begins at 6:00 pm on Thursday, repeating until Thursday, September 7, 2017
How do you become a better person?
Most of us know the traits to which we ought to aspire. The question is, how do you translate whatever your values are into the life that you actually live? Does Judaism offer a path which focuses more on internally purifying the heart as well as externally governing particular behaviors?
To this question, Jewish spiritual tradition has an answer: concentrate on the virtues that are most centrally expressed in ethical action. Then, through introspection and self-accounting, each of us can determine where we are falling short and self-improvement can begin.
Join Rabbi/Cantor Bernstein and learn about an insightful discipline for self-development called Mussar, complete with meditative, contemplative, and other well-developed transformative practices designed to penetrate the deepest roots of the inner life.
Class meets on August 31, September 7 and 14.
No fee; Beth Israel members only. For more information, contact Program Director Ilene Tatro at itatro@cbisd.org or call (858) 535-1111 ext. 2516.
