AniMeals Collection for Purim
Friday, March 15, 2019 - Friday, March 22, 2019
In the Book of Esther, we read that Purim is a time for “feasting and merrymaking,” as well as for “sending gifts to one another and presents to the poor” (Esther 9:22). In addition to reading the M’gillah (Book of Esther), celebrants dress in costumes, have festive parties, perform “Purim-spiels,” silly theatrical adaptations of the story of the M’gillah, send baskets of food (mishloach manot) to friends, and give gifts to the poor (matanot l’evyonim). This year, our Matanot L’evyonim project is benefiting Helen Woodward Animal Center’s AniMeals program. For many homebound seniors a pet is more than a pet. Cats and dogs provide friendship, joy and even a reason for living. Working with Meals-On-Wheels and other organizations, AniMeals coordinates pet food donations, meal packaging and delivery to the companion pets of homebound or low income elderly and disabled people.
Help by bringing in any unopened, unexpired and non-prescription based dog or cat food, wet or dry between Friday, March 15th and Friday, March 22nd, 2019.
Collection bins will be located in the Sanctuary Foyer.
