6th Grade Family Education

Sunday, February 23, 2020 @ 9:00 am - 11:30 am

Sixth Grade Family Education:

“Today you are an adult! What does it mean to become a teen?”

6th Grade Family Education program is coming up on Sunday, February 23rd!

Our 6th Graders and their families will take the next steps on the Bar or Bat Mitzvah journey together during this year’s Family Education program. We are launching a new program for students and parents from the organization Moving Traditions. This program focuses on the social, spiritual, and emotional elements of becoming a teenager, including peer pressure, gender norms, self-esteem, and social responsibility. Developed by a team of rabbis, psychologists, and social workers, the program integrates Jewish wisdom into a program specifically designed for the developmental milestones that occur during sixth and seventh grade.

  • Students will start the morning at opening circle at 9:00 am. Parents are invited to grab coffee and a bagel at Cafe Beth Israel.
  • At 9:15 am, everyone – family members and students – will join together in the Social Hall.
  • From 9:15am-11:30am, our day will include:
    • creating a personalized yad to be used during your child’s Bar/Bat Mitzvah
    • understanding the experience of becoming a b’nai mitzvah as becoming a teenager and being able to articulate your family’s and community’s values around the b’nai mitzvah experience
    • doing a cooking project to benefit Beth Israel’s Caring Community

This will be a very full morning of activities and we are looking forward to learning with and sharing this experience with all of our 6th Grade families!

If you have any questions, please do not hesistate to reach out to Jessica at jkretzer@cbisd.org.
