Eric and his wife, Ronni, moved to San Diego in July 2019 from Atlanta following his retirement from medical practice. The impetus for the relocation was the presence of their son, son-in-law, and twin grandsons here. The grandchildren are enrolled in the Beth Israel religious school and their family are also now Beth Israel members. Our other son also is a South Californian, residing in the Los Angeles area.
Having investigated synagogues before coming to San Diego and attending several services, they chose Beth Israel. This was foreordained by a Georgia friend, Rabbi Ronald Gerson, who grew up at Beth Israel.
Originally from Baltimore, Eric was a Bar Mitzvah at Temple Emanuel, and as an adult belonged to Baltimore Hebrew Congregation, where his wife was a lifelong member. They were members at Congregation Emanu-El B’ne Jeshurun in Milwaukee and later The Temple and Temple Kol Emeth, both in Atlanta.
While in Milwaukee, Eric was selected to join a temple leadership development program. Later, in Atlanta, Eric and Ronni were invited to a couples national leadership program by the Union for Reform Judaism. The 2-year program introduced them to Reform Jewish leaders across the country and within the camp movement.
Eric is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Washington University in St Louis and received his M.D. from the University of Rochester. He then served an internship in medicine and radiology, and was a resident and chief resident in diagnostic radiology at The University of Chicago Hospitals. Returning to Baltimore, Eric was on faculty at The Johns Hopkins Hospital, and then joined the staff at Sinai Hospital. Eventually he and his family moved to a practice in Atlanta, where they lived for 27 years until retirement.
Eric and Ronni are thrilled to now live in San Diego and to be close to their children and grandchildren. He serves as the Men’s Club President.
