Louie and his wife Tammy have been members of Congregation Beth Israel for 35 years. From a young age he felt a deep sense of commitment to the Jewish community, and has served as a Jewish communal professional for over 20 years. First as Camp and Program Director for the Lawrence Family JCC, then as a religious school administrator and camp director at Beth Israel and finally as Director of Family Adult and Children Services for Jewish Family Service of San Diego.
After he retired, Louis served on the Jewish Community Center Board of Directors for 3 years. He also served for 15 years on the Board of Directors for Jewish Family Service, in various leadership positions. He was honored by the JCC as Volunteer of the Year in 2002. Louie received the Charles Zibell JFS Board Leadership Award in 2015, and was a JFS Heart and Soul Gala Honoree in 2017. He hopes to utilize his M.Ed. in Leadership Studies from USD and varied Jewish institutional experiences to make a contribution to the leadership of Beth Israel.
Louie and Tammy have three children, Jacob, Molly and Earnest, who participated in Beth Israel’s day school, religious school, youth groups and had their b’nai mitzvahs at Beth Israel. They have also recently become grandparents to Sammy and Lucy. Louie enjoys woodworking and giving docent led tours of historical homes.
