Membership FAQ
  1. What do I get for my membership dues?
A lot! You get a sacred community made up of caring clergy, staff and synagogue members to support you through life's challenges and to celebrate your blessings with you. You get a community of friends to learn with, struggle with and grow with. You will be celebrated for your accomplishments and challenged to improve yourself and your world. You will be a part of Jewish history in San Diego that spans three centuries. You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you are supporting the continuation of Jewish life in San Diego, and in the world. For ways to get involved at Beth Israel, see this list.
  2. What's the process for joining Beth Israel?
It's easy. Membership and Caring Community Services Coordinator, Judi Schwartz will be your guide. She'll answer your questions about CBI, take you on a tour of our beautiful facility and explain membership requirements. She will introduce you to the clergy and make arrangements for committee chairpeople to reach out so you are able to get involved. Judi can be reached at 858-535-1111, ext. 3113.
  3. What if I can't afford membership?
No one is turned away for financial reasons. We accept members at a rate commensurate with their ability to pay. Payments may be made in installments.
  4. Do I receive High Holy Day tickets with membership?
Yes! For regular synagogue membership, excluding Associate Members, couples receive two adult tickets and single members receive one adult ticket (children are admitted without tickets when accompanied by a parent).
  5. What if I'm in an interfaith family?
We estimate that 30% of our families are intermarried. If you are committed to having a Jewish family life and want a synagogue to support that choice through education, celebration and a warm, inclusive sense of community, you've come to the right place.
