The Hebrew word "tzedakah" is sometimes translated as "charity," suggesting benevolence and generosity. While this is important and good, the truer meaning of the word tzedakah is righteousness, justice or fairness. In Judaism, giving to help others is not only viewed as generous or magnanimous, it is the performance of a duty. We invite you to learn about the ways you can perform tzedakah at Beth Israel and we welcome your generous support.
