CANCELLED: Can China Rise Peacefully?

Thursday, January 15, 2015 @ 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm

$5 – $8

With Professor Susan Shirk

Due to a scheduling change in her courses at UCSD, Professor Shirk regrets that she will be unable to be with us for this presentation. This event is cancelled.

As China grows more powerful, it is asserting itself more forcefully in Asia. This could put it on a collision course with its neighbors and with the United States. What are the domestic factors driving China’s increasing assertiveness? How should the United States manage its relationship with China? Susan Shirk, chair of the UCSD 21st Century China program and former Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for China (1997-2000), will discuss the domestic challenges China’s leaders face and how they influence Chinese policies toward its Asian neighbors and the United States. Co-Sponsored by San Dieguito Chapter Brandeis National Committee.
